Fitness Cartel Mackay is North Queensland’s largest fitness facility and Queensland’s second-biggest gym, a landmark project representing major investment in the Mackay region. Rewired Electrical was chosen to deliver the complete electrical fit out for this state-of-the-art health, fitness, and wellness destination.
The Facility
Fitness Cartel Mackay is a full-service health and wellness destination featuring:
- Wellness & Recovery Zone – Contrast pools, hot rock sauna, red light therapy, Normatec compression, and massage facilities
- Kids Cartel Crèche – Purpose-built playground with full-time carers for members’ children
- World-Class Training Zones – Spin cinema, reformer pilates studio, massive equipment floor, functional turf area
- Sports Courts – Pickleball court and half basketball court for members
The Challenge
Delivering a commercial electrical fitout of this scale in Mackay presented unique challenges for our Gold Coast-based team:
1. Scale & Complexity
This is the biggest Fitness Cartel facility we’ve worked on. The electrical scope covered multiple specialist zones, each with unique power, lighting, and data requirements:
- High-load equipment areas requiring robust power distribution and dedicated circuits
- Wellness zones with specialised lighting and climate control electrical systems
- Commercial kitchen and nutrition bar electrical infrastructure
- Childcare crèche with safety-compliant electrical installations
- Audio-visual systems for the spin cinema and training zones
- Emergency lighting, exit signs, and fire system integration across the entire facility
2. Working Away from Home
Our team flew to Mackay weekly or fortnightly throughout the project, working away from their families to meet deadlines. Coordinating a remote commercial fitout meant:
- Careful planning to maximise productivity during each site visit
- Coordination with other trades working simultaneously on-site
- Logistics management for tools, materials, and equipment between Gold Coast and Mackay
- Maintaining our quality standards while working under tight timeframes
3. Coordination with Client Vision
Fitness Cartel had a clear vision for a luxe, high-end facility that rivals dedicated day spas. Our electrical work needed to support that vision from mood lighting in wellness zones to reliable power for top-tier equipment across the training floor.
